No one really wants to end up in the hospital. So if your doctor told you that you have high blood pressure and high cholesterol and that if you don’t do something about it you’ll end up in the hospital, you’d listen, right? So why is it that so many patients, told by a New Orleans vein specialist that they have signs of vein disease that will eventually put them in the hospital, do nothing – they ignore the doctors, and avoid seeking the treatment they need.

We can’t get much clearer than that, right? And it’s all true. Varicose veins aren’t a minor cosmetic issue – they’re the surface symptoms of a disease, one that will NOT just “go away” or “get better on its own” if you ignore it. Instead, it’ll get worse…possibly much worse. First will come annoying side effects and complications that may not require hospitalization, but that will make your life miserable – swollen legs and ankles, so painful that you can barely walk, and leading eventually to toughened, discolored skin that is so prone to injury that your legs become covered with open, bleeding sores.
Next will come other diseases, which you are more at risk of acquiring because the same disease that is crippling your circulation and causing your varicose veins is also crippling your immune system. One of the most dangerous of such diseases is deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, which can lead to stroke or pulmonary embolism, both potentially fatal. Untreated varicose veins also greatly increase your risk of heart attack, diabetes, and stroke, all of which can land you in the hospital…or worse.
